PEN WORLD VOICES FESTIVAL

Writing Wrongs, Righting Wrongs: Conversations
Featuring Jacqueline Jones LaMon and Shin Kyung-Sook: “Missing Persons”

Gallery, Westbeth Center for the Arts, 55 Bethune St (near West St), Greenwich Village

Acclaimed authors pair-up for “Writing Wrongs, Righting Wrongs” to discuss how they tap into the public’s powerful feelings—recasting emotions such as fear and anger from “negative” to “motivating”—and sculpt them into emotional truths that will move others to think, ask questions, and act for positive social change. In “Missing Persons,” they discuss missing characters and their real-life counterparts. Authors explore the ways in which sudden disappearances cast an unaccustomed light on the lives of individuals and communities. The authors also consider the tendencies of society and institutions to take voice away from those suffering hardship, through neglect, intimidation and exercises in futility—efforts to “disappear” those already victimized and vulnerable.

This event is free but reservations are required. Please contact Stacy Leigh at 212.334.1660 ext.109 for further information. PEN World Voices Festival: www.pen.org/festival
